Step 1: Prepare the dates
If your dates are dry or firm, place them in a bowl and cover with warm water. Let them soak for about 10 minutes, then drain well and pat dry.
Step 2: Blend the ingredients
Add the dates, rolled oats, shredded coconut, and chia seeds to a food processor. Pulse several times until the mixture becomes sticky and everything is finely chopped.
Step 3: Check the consistency
The mixture should hold together when pressed between your fingers. If it seems too dry, add 1 tablespoon of water and process again. Add another tablespoon only if necessary.
Step 4: Form the balls
Scoop out approximately 1 tablespoon of the mixture at a time. Roll it firmly between your palms to create small, round energy balls.
Step 5: Chill
Place the energy balls on a plate or container and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Chilling helps them become firmer.
Step 6: Serve
Enjoy them straight from the refrigerator as a convenient snack or quick energy bite.
Storage
Store the Date Energy Balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. They can also be frozen for longer storage. Let frozen balls sit at room temperature for a few minutes before eating.
Tip: For extra flavor, you can add a little cinnamon, vanilla, cocoa powder, or a pinch of salt, although the basic recipe only needs the four main ingredients.
