Steak with Garlic Butter, Mashed Potatoes, Roasted Asparagus & Fresh Salad

Step 1: Prepare the potatoes

Place the peeled and cubed potatoes in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add a generous pinch of salt.

Bring to a boil and cook for about 15–20 minutes, or until the potatoes are completely tender when pierced with a fork.

Drain well.

Step 2: Make the mashed potatoes

Return the potatoes to the warm pot. Add the butter and mash until smooth.

Gradually add the warm milk while continuing to mash until you reach your preferred creamy consistency.

Season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Keep covered and warm while preparing the rest of the meal.

Step 3: Prepare the asparagus

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).

Place the asparagus on a baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.

Toss to coat evenly.

Roast for approximately 10–15 minutes, depending on the thickness of the asparagus. For extra flavor, sprinkle with Parmesan during the final few minutes.

Step 4: Season the steaks

Pat the steaks completely dry with paper towels. Season both sides generously with salt, black pepper, paprika, and Italian herbs.

Let the steaks sit at room temperature for about 15–20 minutes before cooking.

Step 5: Sear the steaks

Heat a heavy skillet over medium-high to high heat until very hot.

Add the olive oil, then carefully place the steaks in the pan.

For a steak about 1–1½ inches thick, cook for approximately 3–5 minutes per side, depending on your preferred doneness and the exact thickness.

Avoid constantly moving the steaks while they cook. Let them develop a deep, flavorful crust.

Step 6: Add the garlic butter

Reduce the heat to medium-low. Add the butter and smashed garlic cloves to the skillet.

As the butter melts, tilt the pan slightly and repeatedly spoon the garlic-infused butter over the steaks for about 1–2 minutes.

For the most reliable result, use an instant-read thermometer rather than relying only on cooking time. The USDA recommends 145°F (63°C) with a 3-minute rest for whole cuts of beef.

Step 7: Rest the steak

Transfer the steaks to a plate and let them rest for 5–10 minutes.

Resting allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat instead of running out when you cut into it.

Step 8: Prepare the salad

Combine the lettuce, cucumber, and cherry tomatoes in a bowl.

Whisk together the olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper. Drizzle over the salad and toss gently.

Step 9: Assemble the plate

Spoon a generous portion of creamy mashed potatoes onto each plate.

Add the rested steak and roasted asparagus alongside it. Spoon some of the garlic butter from the skillet over the steak and finish with fresh parsley.

Serve with the crisp salad on the side.

Final Result

You get a juicy, garlic-butter steak with a beautifully browned crust, creamy mashed potatoes, caramelized roasted asparagus, and a refreshing salad—a hearty homemade dinner that feels like a restaurant-quality meal.
